After cresting the Summit at Cumbres, the C&TS #489 drops downgrade and heads into the first horseshoe at Tanglefoot Curve on the East side of the Pass.

Durango & Silverton 481 leads a full train of passengers around the highline horse shoe as the Animas River flows a few hundred feet below.
