It seems the California Zephyr is destined to be led by a pair of Phase VII P42's. This colorful consist is a welcomed addition for photographs along the Moffat Route.

Just after sunrise, the northbound Coast Starlight rolls through the Devil's Garden. This area is a lava flow created by eruptions of nearby Mount Shasta.
AMTK 408 gets serviced at its station stop at North La Crosse, WI on the point of the North Coast Hiawatha. The E9 was built as MILW 31A in April 1956.
