Empty reefers march west at Mt. Union under the command of M1 Mountain-type 6903. At one time PRR had 10 westbound symbol trains to handle this type of traffic (Tankers/Reefers/Stock-EB Loads/WB EMTs). This pic is also seen in John's all-color book "The Pennsy in the 1950's..The Last Great Decade" available in hardcover from the PRRT&HS.
Ansco color/color corrected in P/S. Note that the pilot is a switcher type and the tender is a short haul type not found on M1s in the mid 1950s. |
