Qinghai-Tibet railway at km 1405 - that's 544 km (338 miles) north of Lhasa. Tanggula station is located at altitude 5.068 m (16.628 feet) and thereby the highest placed railway station in the world. There is no town here, and the trains rarely stop, and then only for trains to pass. Passengers are not allowed out on the platform. |
