It is November of 1971, the so called "Rainbow Era" of Amtrak is underway as SP power leads cars from the UP, GN, BN, SP (their home built dome car), and CB&Q. The scene is at the West end of the Yolo Causeway, West of Sacramento at a place then known as Webster, now called West Causeway

In the years after World War II Southern Pacific went from being the most bullish railroad on passenger service to one of its biggest detractors. It continually downgraded service until Amtrak took over what remained.
