Westbound NYSW SU99 storms upgrade at Gulf Summit, NY at 4:10 pm on October 14, 2007. The units were screaming and the train could be heard for almost 15 minutes before it appeared. The gravel "road" to the left is the right-of-way for the second (westbound) track, which was pulled up in late 2005 and 2006. This trackage is a far cry from what it was before 1970 when up to 20 Erie Lackawanna freights per day struggled over the hill.
