Remarks & Notes |
A shot from 1979, long before the Class 46s were scrapped. 46 035 starts to drop down the long gradient towards Manchester Victoria at Miles Platting station. You can see how the train is changing from the level to the falling gradient. Days before this photo was taken, the loco had been used on an inaugural run of a waste disposal train from London to Bedfordshire to a landfill site. There had been a blaze of publicity for this to demonstrate the efficiency of the London waste disposal authorities. Unfortunately, no-one had completely removed the temporary lettering that had been applied to the front of the loco. I don't know what the passengers on this Newcastle to Liverpool service thought of it! |
