The Southern Pacific Santa Monica Branch (fka Santa Monica Airline) had been abandoned for ten years already, but most of the rail through town was still in place when art galleries opened in the old Bergamot Station complex. A New York, Ontario & Western 1916 wood caboose was brought in (NYOW sold it to Long Island Railroad, who sold it to Wallkill Valley RR). It didn't last long in Santa Monica as it was attacked by graffiti punks almost daily. Today, these tracks and the caboose are both gone. The caboose is now displayed in College Park, TX.
