Remarks & Notes |
An old shot from 1980. Ex-Great Western loco no. 6000 King George V departs from Chester with a Main line special for Hereford. The locomotive was built in June 1927. It was shipped to the United States in August 1927 to feature in the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad's centenary celebrations. During the celebrations it was presented with a bell which it still carries and can be seen on the front of the loco. The bell is inscribed, ”Presented to Locomotive King George V by the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Company in commemoration of its centenary celebration Sept 24th - Oct 15th 1927”. In need of a very costly overhaul, it has not run now for several years and is currently on static display. |
