| Not long after CalTrain's new F40's went into service on the Peninsula, a problem surfaced with their air brakes. Until EMD was able to fix the problem, SP's commute locomotives were put back in service working in tandem with the F40's to provide safe braking while the new engines provided HEP. The cement work next to the F40 was the remains of the water column dating back to steam days.
