Amtrak #3 departed Chicago with two operating P42DCs (93 and 116) and one dead-heading unit (113). By the time #3 got to Colorado, 116 had died, and 113 could not be started, so FURX SD40-2 8130 was added. But it was cut off in Barstow, and BNSF 4149 was added - but the damage was done as the train was now over 7 hours late into Los Angeles.
