| This particular SD40-2 began it's journey to being NS 3439 over 42 years ago in February 1966 as Pennsylvania Railroad SD40 # PRR 6043. The unit then became the Penn Central 6043 in 1968. PC 6043 again changed numbers and ownership when she became Conrail 6296 in April of 1976. In September of 1993 the unit was renumbered again to CR 6985 after an electrical upgrade to Dash-2 Specs. Finally in June of 1999 perhaps the final # change was made to NS 3439. |
