Steam returned to British main lines in a big way in 1978. 4472 Flying Scotsman is seen here with the Cumbrian Coast Express in August of that year, which ran weekly throughout the summer from Carnforth to Sellafield and back. It is seen here skirting Morecambe Bay at Kents Bank at Grange Over Sands. The Bay has now silted up and is a grassy field with sheep! Look at 204538 to see the same scene 29 years later. When I took this in 1978, I thought it was the best train photo I had taken. I guess it seems pretty ordinary now, but I was inexperienced then.
