Remarks & Notes |
The South Yorkshire town of Royston was (and is) an unlovely place though the 60's at least it had a purpose. The coking plant on the horizon and many local collieries supplied coke & coal to industry. The railway with its 10-road straight shed served these and other regional employers. On this occasion (as usual) the shed yard features a selection of 'Royston Rolls-Royce's' as some local wag christened the depot's allocation of ex-LMS '8F's. Time has replaced all in this scene with dereliction, one forlorn rail line survives. Trees have returned in the form of silver birch saplings and the coking plant remains one of the few of its kind to struggle on into the new century. |
