The Great Western Railway loved naming its principal locomotive classes. Very few castles, halls, courts, abbeys, granges and manors escaped attention. Eventually they ran out of names in their 'home' territory and (unimaginatively) looked further afield to Yorkshire, Lancashire and beyond for inspiration. The 'Manors' were neat, lightweight 4-6-0's ideally suited to cross-country passenger traffic. In the beautiful, verdant Dee valley, 'Foxcote Manor' gets away from Llangollen.
