With HRH the Prince of Wales on the footplate, and probably with his hand on the regulator, GWR 6000 Class 4-6-0 no. 6024 “King Edward I” crosses what’s known to him as great-great-great-grandma’s bridge (but to us lesser mortals as Victoria bridge) with the Royal Train. This was the first visit of the Royal Train to the Severn Valley Railway, and the first time it had been steam-hauled on any preserved railway. It was also the first visit by Prince Charles to the line, which was postponed from last year due to the devastating floods. He and the Duchess of Cornwall carried out engagements at Kidderminster, Bewdley and Bridgnorth stations.
