Lesson #376: Sometimes a little research makes a photo worth posting. Last May I was given the opportunity to shoot the back-up switcher working the Gerdau Ameristeel plant in Perth Amboy, NJ. With the usual critter down for minor repairs, the SW1200 originally built as New Haven #654 was put into service albeit for a few short days. After keeping on the backburners for a year, I researched the heritage of the unit and discovered this photo by Donald Haskel taken in 1966 some 41 years earlier. What was once an industrial switcher in my mind had become a story in a few hours thanks to an online New Haven equipment roster and Mr. Haskel for sharing his great photos with all of us. |
