Remarks & Notes |
This is a lost landscape from South Yorkshire. Steam had been eliminated from British Railways for a couple of years, but in 1970 it still lingered on in dozens of collieries throughout Britain. Dodworth Colliery, on the northern outskirts of Barnsley used both a 'Austerity' 0-6-0 and (as here) a Hudswell Clarke 0-4-0 to marshall coal trains ready for collection. Class 47 diesel No.1997 waits patiently to collect the train for onward delivery. All in this photograph has vanished except the running lines on the right. |
