Mud Lake, behind the trees a few hundred yards, is really a swamp. It has always been prone to spring flooding, dating back to construction by the Milwaukee Road. Legend has it that an attempt by CP to find bedrock at 200' down for bridgebuilding was not sucessful a few years back. Pour rock in, and the roadbed sinks. So, with the waters finally receeding after 3 weeks of closure, traffic is able to roll once again through "the swamp". Here a westbound has most of its train out of the drink, passing under a wooden bridge at MP 140 at 10mph.
