With NPCU 90224 in the lead, Amtrak's southbound Pere Marquette splits the signals in the tiny village of New Richmond, MI. Although it was running on schedule at the time of this photo, it would soon be plagued with signal problems, resulting in a three-hour late arrival into Chicago.
Amtrak has three routes that connect Michigan with Chicago, but none to the East or South. The routes are: Wolverine - Pontiac - Chicago; Blue Water - Port Huron - Chicago, and Pere Marquette - Grand Rapids - Chicago.
