Remarks & Notes |
On a quiet Sunday afternoon one of Anchorage's lovely local residents performs a time honored American tradition--waving at a passing caboose.....for the last time. This inbound empty gravel train is arriving in Anchorage from AS&G and is seen passing this quiet little downtown park just a couple hundred yards south of CP 1140 on the ARR's mainline. This is the final revenue gravel train of the 2008 season for this customer and the LAST one to ever feature an occupied manned caboose. This cab was the very last one on the ARR and quite possibly the last one in all of the land to still be in daily service on a mainline train fully equipped as god intended. All ARR cabooses are being retired (even those in MofW service) and this train will run in 2009 with a soulless "FRED" on the rear like every other homogoneous freight train. Truly the end of an era.... |
