Remarks & Notes |
This locomotive is one of a class built in Gorton, Manchester 1954 especially for the electrified route from Manchester to Sheffield. The type was used, often in tandem, primarily on the heavy coal traffic that used to ply the route. A larger design was used for passenger services. It is now on display at the National Railway Museum, York. The route was closed over twenty five years ago and almost all the locos scrapped. |
