Remarks & Notes |
Class 87 no. 87 001 on display at the National Railway Museum, York. The class was introduced in 1973, for the completion of the electrification of the northern section of the West Coast main line between Weaver Junction and Glasgow. They were the mainstay of these express services until the Virgin Pendolinos were introduced in 2002. The last ones were withdrawn from service at the end of 2007. A few were scrapped, four were preserved including this one and one that has been re-certified for main line use, the remainder have been sold for further use in Bulgaria. The loco carries the name STEPHENSON on one side and ROYAL SCOT on the other. The loco carried both names at different times in its career. |
