With the influx of great photos recording the last days of the old Monon semaphores, I thought it might be fitting to share a photo of the semaphores when Monon power still ruled the rails. There's a long story behind this photo, but the bottom line is a kid from Michigan found himself just south of Linden on a crisp Saturday morning to record this image with his Dad's old Argus C3 camera. Although the line now belongs to the L&N (since July 31st), Monon power was still plentiful and doing a fine job of pulling this southbound train swiftly towards Louisville. Don't try to recreate this image today; the semaphores were replaced a number of years ago with back-to-back color lights and the grain elevator has been gone for almost 20 years. |
