"California Style" F59PHIs were introduced by EMD in 1994. This particular one was built for the Marlboro Unlimited Train, an aborted promotional program by Phillip Morris. Even if the train had been a success, the PM folks knew they would sell it off, so the engines were built as straightforward F59PHIs that could be easily sold off to a commuter operation or Amtrak. Metrolink stepped up and had this, and sister #883 repainted from their perfect Marlboro Red Box red, to standard Metrolink colors. It is seen here in 900 Service, between Los Angeles and the airport in Burbank.
