After chasing MRL's Gas Local to Missoula, I went to get lunch only to hear the dispatcher give nearly-simultaneous permissions to the Q-DENTAC to head west over Evaro Pass and the Schilling Local to depart west over the 4th Sub. Figuring blue Geeps were more interesting than yet another orange GE, I went to shoot the local west of Missoula, then hustled over Evaro myself in chase of the stack train. I overtook the DENTAC below the summit, drove ahead and set up near Dixon to wait for it... and wait... and wait... and have the scene I had selected become completely smothered in shadows. Finally, the train appeared in the distance, and I was resigned to capturing a muted overcast shot... Until, literally the very last instant, a hole opened overhead to permit this view of the DENTAC leaning into a curve along the Flathead River with the sun-dappled Mission Range looming in the distance.
