Remarks & Notes
Land Barge - one of C&NW's lengthy and lumbering freight trains. This eastbound 482 train, strung out across the horizon, was tied-down at this grade crossing just west of the Waseca yard. The motive power consist is seven units: C425 404-RS slug BU41-C425 402-GP7-RS32-SD18-RS32. CNW's four C425s 401-404 were the last C425s built with 50% of them shown here. They were configured as two C425/RS slug (converted RS3)/C425 sets operating on the "ALCO Line" between Huron, SD and Winona, MN at this time. The CNW C425s were transferred to Escanaba, MI later in the year. This photo appears in the book "DAKOTA, MINNESOTA & EASTERN A Modern Granger Railroad" by Andy Cummings and Jerry Huddleston published in 2005.
