Remarks & Notes |
When it gets really cold in Washington in the winter, the perpetual clouds vanish and leave behind a brilliant blue sky. Late on such a glorious Friday afternoon, an empty grain train follows the ice-lined Yakima River downstream after crossing the Cascade range. This location is just west of Thorp, where the Milwaukee Road later built along the south bank of the river parallel to the NP on its trek to the Pacific coast; the now-abandoned right-of-way is visible in the shadow of the bluff on the left. |
