Climbing southbound along the Welland Canal, CN 1394 and van 79752 are separated by one car as they make their way to Thorold to switch a local industry. This was once part of CN's mainline to Fort Erie and Buffalo, however, holding the title of steepest grade on the CNR, it was bypassed by the Stamford Sub during construction of one of the recent (1970's?) incarnations of the Welland Canal. I wish I'd known more about the local scene back then as I'm pretty sure this guy was heading for street running on Pine Street (now abandoned). Doh! This trackage is now operated by Trillium Railway's Port Colborne Harbour Terminal. 1135hrs. Scanned from a Kodachrome 64 slide.
