It has been 11 years since the last revenue train passed through on the date of this photo, allowing this single spruce to gain a foothold and grow to a height of 2 feet. If this were the American southeast, nature would have a much stronger hold on reclaiming this railroad landscape... but the Colorado winters are harsh and the air is very dry, making this line appear to be in good shape.
