Remarks & Notes |
Garratt No. 87 has just arrived at Beddgelert after a superb run from Caernarfon. This locomotive was built by John Cockerill of Seraing, Belgium in 1936 for South African Railways. On the return trip, the train was halted briefly on the climb from Beddgelert to Pitt's Head with a blocked spark-arrester. This locomotive then re-started the eight carriage train on a 1:40 gradient with only the slightest hint of a slip! Fantastic!! |
