| All traffic on the Port Elizabeth to Avontuur line was hauled by steam until the arrival of the first diesel locomotive in 1972. GE supplied 20 class 91 locomotives type UM6B. After 1986, the complete line was dieselized. From these twenty locomotives, at least one has been converted to 3'6" gauge and is shunting in Port Elizabeth. Class 91-014 was written-off in an accident some years ago. |
