Remarks & Notes |
NGG16 Class 2-6-2+2-6-2T number 87 climbs up the curve at Ffridd-isaf towards Rhyd Ddu on the Welsh Highland Railway. The first vehicle is an open wagon adapted to carry bicycles and buggies/motorised wheelchairs. The mountain above is Snowdon, the highest point in England and Wales at 1085 metres. If you look hard you can just see the Snowdon Mountain Railways Summit station just below the top. I have yet to see a shot from here with both a WHR train and the plume from a SMR steam locomotive rising above the ridgeline. Unfortunately the SMR doesn't start running to Summit station until mid June. They missed a trick on this Bank Holiday Sunday as through binoculars we could see hundreds of people walking up the ridge from the left |
