Remarks & Notes |
Ex-GWR prairie tank no. 5526 pushes an autotrailer with a service from Winchcombe to Toddington at the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway's 25th Anniversary Gala. On an autotrailer, there is a driver's cab at the opposite end to the loco. When the steam loco pushes the carriage, the driver is in the cab in the carriage and actually drives the loco using controls that are linked by a series of mechanical linkages to the controls on the footplate . This was a system commonly used on the GWR for local branch lines with light passenger loadings. Only a handful of such carriages are now extant in a preserved state. |
