Remarks & Notes |
This week South Eastern Trains started a preview service of three trains in the morning from Ashford to London St.Pancras and return in the evening using the new Hitachi 140mph Javelin trains. So popular has the 07.48 departure become in just three days that two six-car units are being used from to-day. Here the train is framed by an ancient oak tree that had been partially blown over in the great storm of October 1987. This tree has seen huge changes in its lifetime not least the disection of Chilston Park, which dates from the 12th century, by the M20 motorway and more recently the Channel Tunnel Rail Link now known as High Speed 1 (HS1) in the hopes that there might be an HS2. |
