| The Cumberland Mine is operated by Alpha Natural Resources and according to their web site has an annual capacity of approximately 7 million clean tons. The coal is shipped 17 miles from the Cumberland facility via private railroad to the Monongahela River where it is placed on barges. One of the tunnels on the line was recently daylighted resulting in a new location to view the line which is mostly lined with thick brush. |
