Remarks & Notes |
Victor B. D'Agostino (standing) has been with Amtrak since 1979 when he thought he may like working with railroads better than the job he had once had with the City of Burbank. Even after 30 years of service with Amtrak, Victor still enjoys his job and the people he works with.
Victor D'Agostino II (seated) started with the railroad in January of 2004 as an assistant conductor and is now working as an AC in the LA service pool. Like his father, Victor loves his job and enjoys working with the train riding public.
Although father and son are practicing different disciplines within the same industry, they share, along with their family ties, a common interest which is their life long love affair with the railroad.
The “Changing of the Guard” illustrated in this image is not seen in a minute, or in a day, week, month or even in terms of years. Instead the process we are witnessing here spans two separate life times and two separate careers, one is at the beginning, the other nearing the end. Father mentoring son, all captured within in a fraction of a second within this image. Both men seemingly have been frozen in time, but reality keeps them relentlessly moving forward toward their next chapter in life. Shot for Trains Magazine 2008 photo contest "Changing of the Guard"at Redondo Jct. Los Angeles, Calif. September 6th, 2008. Image was not even a runner up in that years contest. © Steve Crise Photo 2008. Scrise.com.
