A sea of blue: I was only 14 years old in the summer of 1996 and -- at the time -- the dissolution three years later of Conrail, the railroad I had grown up with, was an inconceivable notion. If somebody had told me that the ready tracks at Selkirk would someday be stuffed with locomotives that weren't painted blue, I would have laughed in their face. Obviously, the merger came to pass and outside of the CSAO regions it's rare anymore to see a unit still wearing Conrail paint, which makes me glad I snapped this photo late on a humid summer afternoon of an eastbound manifest slowing to a stop in the Receiving Yard in front of lines of B23-7s, C30-7As and other classic Big Blue units awaiting their next calls to duty.
