Remarks & Notes |
Photographs of the famed Settle and Carlisle route seldom feature Settle itself. Castleberg rock, a crag set 300ft above this ancient Yorkshire market town gives offers a wonderful panorama across the rooftops. 'The Hadrian' special is being hauled by 'Britannia' Pacific No.70013 'Oliver Cromwell'. Settle has medieval origins and many fine and ancient buildings remain in the town set alongside the River Ribble. A funfair is being dismantled in the market place onto which the white frontage of 'Ye Olde Naked Man' cafe faces. Ah, the delights of Yorkshire! |
