I'm standing atop the new "Walkway Over The Hudson," the "longest foot bridge in the world," the 40 million dollar conversion of what we railfans know as the Central New England/New Haven Railroad Poughkeepsie Bridge. One of the oldest extant steel bridges in the world, the 6771' long and 212' high structure was opened in 1888, over 121 years ago. Out of rail service since 1974, the bridge has been a very depressing sight in constant danger of being torn down. With this miraculous rescue the experience I have waited over 40 years for has transpired. While I would have rather seen this view from the cab of a NH L-1 2-10-2, this is just fine. Here we see CSX 2761 scooting NB with an unusually short freight.
