Remarks & Notes |
Into the sunset... In more ways than one. First, the obvious: D&H 7309 trundles into a summer evening's sunset with a single car destined for Northeast Industrial Park in Guilderland Center; silhouetted in the foreground is the eastbound absolute signal for the Conrail diamond at CP-VO. Second, the history: The Albany Main east of this point is now gone, having been taken out of service after the Normans Kill bridge shifted during flooding in 2000 with outright abandonment following in 2004. I didn't get my driver's license until after the line was already OOS, and it's always been one of my regrets that I wasn't able to document the east end of the railroad "in my backyard" while trains were still running. Scanned from Ektachrome 100. |
