Remarks & Notes |
Amtrak No. 458 at Fullerton DIC (Dead in Consist) - Amtrak Train 583 takes the green at Highland Avenue after leaving the station in Fullerton California at dusk on a Sunday evening in October with Train #577 in tow. Amtrak Trains 583 and 577 were apparently combined at some point on the route between San Diego and Los Angeles. It appears from the lack of an exhaust plume coming out of the top of #458 and the absence of any red marker lights, that engine number 458 is running DIC (dead in consist) and probably suffered some type of complete failure causing it to be electronically isolated from the rest of the train. Another sign of the times are all the well cars and spline cars parked along the tracks in the distance. Seems there is an awful lot of rolling stock squirreled away on sidings across the country. |
