Currently the only operational GMAM garratt locomotive in South Africa, no.4079 "Lyndie Lou" is owned by the Sandstone Heritage Trust and is on loan to Reefsteamers. Here she is seen blasting up the long grade from Magaliesburg, running rear bunker first, as was normal practice in steam days, with an excursion train operated by Reesteamers. The water column at Magaliesburg station is no longer operational and this is a thirsty locomotive, hence the need for three water tankers. Up until dieselisation in 1971/72, these locomotives were the regular power on this line, hauling passengers and freight between Krugersdorp and Mafikeng.
