Remarks & Notes
Another scanned old negative from 1980. Two Class 76s Nos. 76 014 and 76 027 at Guide Bridge. These 1500v DC locos were built specially for the Manchester-Sheffield Woodhead route in the 1950s. In the late 1960s, passenger traffic was withdrawn along the route, leaving only freight. This was predominantly coal traffic from the Yorkshire coalfields. In the early 1980s the route was closed completely and all but a couple of the unique class(which were preserved) were scrapped. The trackwork here has been simplified into two through tracks and the yard all has gone.
