CSX's Northern Subdivision (Russell, KY - Columbus, OH) parallels the NS Columbus District (Portsmouth, OH - Columbus, OH) for about 15 miles just south of Columbus and it is well known that C&O and N&W crews took great pride in racing Class T-1 2-10-4's vs. Class A 2-6-6-4's back in the steam era. Flash forward about 60 years and today's race is between a CSX AC4400 on an E434 MTY train and a NS SD70M-2 on train 18M with CSX holding the edge for the moment.
