A class 8E heavy shunting locomotive, in original SAR red livery, awaiting repairs at Transnet Rail Engineering's Koedoespoort workshops, along with a couple of class 18E's in Spoornet blue. The 8E's are 3 kV DC electrics, built between 1983 and 1985 by a consortium of Brown Boveri & Co. of Switzerland and Siemens of Germany. Photographed during a Railway Society of Southern Africa group visit.
The red & whisker livery of the South African Railways / Suid Afrikaanse Spoorwee collection. Getting harder to find examples of this fantastic and much loved livery still in service!
