Double Resurrection! First, Rio Grande speed lettering once again adorns the long hood of 6-axle power in the form of recently acquired SD90MACs from CITX. Second, the annual Ski Train is back for the 2009-2010 season and these MACs will be providing the power! For 69 years the Ski Train operated out of Denver's Union Station, but it was sold in the Spring of 2009. The San Luis & Rio Grande Railroad stepped in and worked out a deal with Union Pacific and Amtrak to operate the Ski Train for at least one more season. The Ski Train's season opens on December 27 and will run through March 28. Learn more at Front Range Railfanning. UPDATE Dec 28: The Ski Train has been cancelled for the 2009-2010 season. Iowa Pacific (the company that owns the San Luis & Rio Grande) and Amtrak could not reach an agreement to run the train and so ends a 69 year tradition...WAY TO GO, GUYS!
