Remarks & Notes |
Your riding the trailing SD40-2 following behind 759 on train #909 of July 10, 1983, rocking and rolling along at about 25mph as it meets #910 behind another pair of SD40-2's led by 772. The gray Dresser rock spread along and between the rails show Soo's ongoing attempts to upgrade the line because of expanding COFC traffic. By fall the track from Gladstone to Sault Ste. Marie was good for 40mph, but 90lbs jointed rail rolled in the 1940's just couldn't hold up for long. All of the trackwork was a moot point a couple years later when the COFC/TOFC traffic was routed away from the Upper Peninsula and over CSX between Chicago and Detroit. |
