295M (recently re-numbered from 7M) leads the rest of its set along the single line near Eltham, with a warm summer afternoon service from Hurstbridge to Flinders Street. This particular set was actually withdrawn from public service several years ago and a start was made on restoring it to original condition by preservation group Elecrail; however due to unprecedented increases in patronage Connex hired it back from them and refurbished it. Now the set has changed hands to Metro Trains Melbourne, and is carrying their logos. Also of interest is that this set exhibits most of the varieties found amongst the Hitachi cars, including both types of panto, an ex-driving trailer, and a car with the panto mounted at the rear.
