Remarks & Notes
An old shot from April 1977. GWR no. 6000 King George V heads away from Chester with a returning railtour to Hereford. This loco visited the USA in August 1927 to feature in the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad's centenary celebrations. During the celebrations it was presented with a bell which it still carries and can be seen on the front of the loco. The bell is inscribed, ”Presented to Locomotive King George V by the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Company in commemoration of its centenary celebration Sept 24th - Oct 15th 1927”. This loco was the first to break the British Rail steam ban in 1971, following the end of steam in 1968 Now in need of a very costly overhaul, it has not run now for several years and is currently on static display.
